🐧 Puffin Scout Badge
The puffin is one of Scotland’s most loved seabirds — instantly recognisable, wonderfully colourful, and full of personality. Found along Scotland’s dramatic coastlines and islands, the puffin is a perfect symbol of adventure, resilience, and connection to the outdoors — values that sit at the heart of Scouting.
Despite its playful appearance, the puffin is an incredible explorer. Spending much of its life far out at sea, it navigates vast distances with confidence before returning home each year. In Scouting, young people develop similar skills: learning independence, building confidence through adventure, and always knowing the importance of belonging to a group.
Puffins may be small, but they are remarkably strong and determined — flying, diving, and swimming in challenging conditions. This reflects an important Scouting lesson: real strength comes from perseverance, teamwork, and the willingness to keep going, even when things feel difficult.
As guardians of Scotland’s coastal wildlife, puffins also highlight the importance of caring for our environment. This badge encourages Scouts to explore the outdoors responsibly, learn about wildlife, and develop respect for the landscapes and habitats that make Scotland unique.
The Puffin Scout Badge forms part of our Scottish Wildlife & Legends series, celebrating animals that reflect both Scotland’s natural heritage and the values of Scouting. Bright, fun, and packed with meaning, it’s ideal for camp blankets, collections, or as a reminder that adventure can always be found — sometimes just beyond the shoreline.
