As Scouts, we’re used to dealing with money. We fundraise for charities, budget for camps, and raise money for jamborees as part of everything we do to build skills for life. Now, we’ve developed badges that focus on fun, active ways for young people to build their money skills and learn how to be confident in decisions around money.
How to earn your badge:
1) Learn about how money is used online.
Find out about online banking, digital money (such as cryptocurrencies), how to keep your money safe and how money works in games.
2) Learn how to budget and make smart choices with your money.
Explore how much everyday things cost, try comparing differently priced products, or plan an adventure where you aim to get the best value for your money.
3) Find out how saving and borrowing money works.
Explore different types of bank accounts, learn the difference between credit and debit or talk about the risks of using payday loans.
4) Explore how money can affect your feelings and wellbeing.
Learn how to spot scams, why false claims can damage businesses, and discover ways to stay safe, happy and healthy when dealing with money in everyday life.
