Explorers Values Challenge Award Badge

This award is all about discovering what matters to you and how your values shape the way you live, lead, and support others. Work as a team to plan a series of activities that explore the Scout Promise, spiritual reflection, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Think about how your beliefs influence your actions—and how you can help others explore theirs.

Whether it’s leading a reflection, celebrating a significant day, exploring different faiths, or creating inclusive activities, use this Challenge Award to deepen your understanding and make a positive impact.

How to earn your badge:

1. Choose an appropriate challenge. It should fit the theme of this Challenge Award and should be achieved within 6 months of starting.

2. Use these six ‘Experience Principles’ to plan how you will complete your challenge. You should do something within each principle.

   Create - Bring something into existence
   Mobilise - Bring others together
   Reflect - Know and care for yourself
   Solve - Fix a problem
   Discover - Learn something new
   Experience - Try something out

3. Record your progress and achievements in whatever way you want to.

4. Share your evidence with your Leaders or fellow Explorers to demonstrate how you engaged with the Challenge Award theme through the six “Experience Principles”.

    • A plan for communicating your progress.
    • Ask for help if you're visiting new places or trying new activities.
  • When volunteering with unfamiliar teams, make sure you have a key contact person to liaise with and understand what to do if you feel unsafe or uncertain.
  • When mobilising in social action locally, consider everyone's safety and delegate tasks accordingly, especially in unfamiliar areas or locations.
  • Have a clear plan and risk assessment for your activities.
  • Make sure that any external provider you use follows The Scouts' requirements by checking theExternally Led Activity guidance.

• Create and Lead a Values-Based Programme
  • Plan and deliver a series of 6 sessions exploring Scout values (e.g. integrity, respect, care, belief).
  • Include games, discussions, creative tasks, and reflection time.
  • Evaluate the impact with participants and mentors.
  Organise a Celebration of a Significant Day
  • Choose a day like Founder’s Day, St George’s Day, or World Values Day.
  • Plan a full-day programme including ceremonies, activities, and community engagement.
  • Include elements of spiritual reflection and Scout heritage.
  EDI Awareness Campaign
  • Research equity, diversity, and inclusion in Scouting and wider society.
  • Design and run 6 themed activities or workshops for your group.
  • Create posters, videos, or social media content to share learning.
  Faith and Beliefs Exploration Project
  • Organise visits to 3–6 places of worship or belief-based organisations.
  • Host guest speakers or interviews with people of different faiths.
  • Create a presentation or exhibition to share what you’ve learned.
  Spiritual Reflection Leadership
  • Take regular responsibility for leading spiritual reflections (e.g. once a month).
  • Use creative formats: storytelling, music, nature walks, journaling.
  • Encourage others to participate and reflect on their own values.
  Personal Beliefs Journey
  • Undertake a personal project exploring your own beliefs or values.
  • Keep a journal, create artwork, or write a blog.
  • Present your journey to your group or mentor at the end.
  Scout Promise in Action Challenge
  • Choose a value from the Scout Promise and live it intentionally for 6 months.
  • Document your actions (e.g. helping others, being honest, showing respect).
  • Reflect monthly with your mentor and share your learning.
  Values in the Community Project
  • Identify a local issue that connects to Scout values (e.g.homelessness, inclusion).
  • Plan and carry out a community action project.
  • Include reflection and storytelling to share the impact.
